How iOS destroyed Android for me 
About two weeks ago, I picked up an iPhone SE. I paid just 40 euros for the phone. The battery was practically dead, so I replaced it. After this, I had a 60-euro iPhone SE. After I had updated the phone to iOS 13, I installed the necessary apps, popped in my sim card, charged it and started using it.
At first, the plan was to use it for just a week. Well, I can say that that plan failed. After I started using my Android phone again, I felt like something wasn’t right. Had it always been this laggy?
As a bit of a “backstory”, I used to have an LG G6. It was a great phone, but after about two years it was time for a new one. So, a few months ago I picked up the Honor 10. I instantly forgot about my LG G6. It was smoother, had a better battery and it was a lot faster.
trying to switch back to my Honor 10 seemed really difficult. I really like the size of the iPhone, it’s smoothness and it’s overall stability.
What is better, in my opinion:
- Smoothness
- Memory management
- Responsiveness
- Standby battery drain
- System wide dark mode (YES)
What is worse, in my opinion:
- Audio controls (Like tuning on/off vibrate)
- Some apps are worse (like marktplaats, there are no side menu’s, it’s all on top)
For the people wondering why I choose to make this blog post, it’s to chare my opinion. I’m not trying to ‘swear by the gods of Apple’ that it is better. I am curious about other’s opinions.

Some of your "better" points, don't really match with Android as an OS, but more with your experience with Honor as a brand.
Memory management is much better on higher end Android phones.
Most manufacturers (Samsung, OnePlus) offer a system wide dark mode.
Responsiveness is also vastly improved on high-end Android phones.
In terms of smoothness, I think the iPhone has a win, perhaps with exception to the new 90Hz Android phones.
All in all, it seems like the classic flawed comparison between the "MacBook" vs Windows laptops, where people seem to think it's fair to pitch a sub 1000 euro Windows laptop versus a 2200 euro MacBook.

I get that actual high-end Android phone might have better ram management, and that they might be smoother. But my LG G6 was a flagship, and the honor still felt like a massive improvement. Also, my Honor has huawei’s flagship SoC from 2018 whilst the iphone SE that I’m currently using has the Apple flagship SoC from 2015. Also, the honor runs practically the same software as all the other new honor and huawei devices. Also, I am aware of pf the fact that newer Samsung as well as Onepluss devices have a system wide dark mode, but i mainly compared the SE to my 10. Also, the Honor 10 was (if I am not mistaken) €400 at its release, where the iphone was about €490. Second was a Samsung Galaxy S something, also from my employer. That phone was really crap, with an inconsistent Android plus a heavy TouchWiz interface plus lots of double apps (Google and Samsung versions) that could not be deleted.
Then I bought my first iPhone (a 5s), which was heaven on earth compared to both phones I had before.
First smartphone was a blackberry, from my employer.
Second was a Samsung Galaxy S something, also from my employer. That phone was really crap, with an inconsistent Android plus a heavy TouchWiz interface plus lots of double apps (Google and Samsung versions) that could not be deleted.
Then I bought my first iPhone (a 5s), which was heaven on earth compared to both phones I had before.
Waarom is dit verhaal in het Engels, terwijl je andere blog gewoon Nederlands is? Denk je dat je mening zo exotisch is, dat het internationaal opgepakt wordt of zo?

Oh i bet, the older versions of android where kinda crap in general. Android started getting good after 5. My first smartphone ran android 4 and although i didnt hate it at the time, i will say that my next phone (a huawei) with android 5 wasso much better already. Ik heb juist mijn iPhone SE ingeruild voor een Huawei P30 Lite. Wat een verademing. Vooral de battery life was echt crap bij de SE.

Was je batterij van je SE niet inmiddels versleten waarbij de P30 Lite een gloednieuwe accu had?

Haal met mn SE gemiddeld 3 - 4 uur SOT. Standby gaat geen % van het accu percentage af als die terwijl ik slaap op standby licht. Mn Honor 10 gaat bij mij ‘s nachts rustig van 100% naar 90%. Ookal is die nog maar enkele maanden oud. Daarnaast is de SOT ook tussen de 3 - r uur op mn honor. Enige is wel, mits ik 4G gebruik hij veel sneller leeg lijkt te wezen. Mn iphone is als ik uit bed stap 100%, als ik in de bus zit naar college 95% en als ik er aan kom op 85%. Mn honor zit dis als ik wakker wordt al op 90%, als ik in de bus ga op 80% en als ik na een uur op college kom zit deze nog maar op 65% - 70%. Zelfs op batterij besparing. T zelfde verhaaltje was t op mn Lg g6 die ik er voor had. Dus persoonlijk, is de SE eeN beste upgrade qua accu (zo voelt het). Misschien dat de 2019 kirin chips veel minder verbruiken? Anders weet ik nie thoe jouw accu zo “slegt” was in je SE, tenzij hij zoals door een ander al werdt vermeld in slechte staat verkeerde.plofkip wrote on Monday 21 October 2019 @ 15:25:

I'm still using my Lumia1520, ordered it a few months ago for $130, after the usage of my 930 ($30), and before that 650, and before that 520. For me Windows Phone is still the best operating system. The lack of apps doesn't bother me that much, because I can do almost everything through the fast browser. WhatsApp support will stop next year sadly, so I'll probably have to look for something else. I've used Android, but I think it is messy, laggy and has a horrible design. I liked Android 2.3.3 Alcatel OT991D far more than the newer look of Android. It wasn't always fast to use, but I liked how I could still find my settings... On my Motorola Moto G5s smartphone (which I ordered a year ago) a search in the setting leaded to about 10 option search results that would lead to the same page...
Windows phone is also far better for privacy.
Also the Lumia 1520 hardware is great. The camera is good, the speed is still fast, the battery lasts long (had to replace it after I received it, so the battery is fresh). The screen is unmatched in terms of brightness and contrast by any of the budget Android devices is my experience.
Since I still have my G5s, Ill use it for WhatsApp only and bring 2 phones with me. I have tried IOS, but Windows Phone is still the best phone OS in my opinion, however I do like it better than Android.

Ik zou bijvoorbeeld niet kunnen wennen aan het meldingensysteem van iOS, Daar mogen ze echt flinke verbeteringen in doorvoeren. Als ik zie wat voor een rommeltje het al snel wordt als iemand van twee Whatsapp-gesprekken tegelijkertijd iets binnen krijgt loopt alles door elkaar. Het is nu al gelukkig gegroepeerd per app, dat was eerst nog een groter drama.
Ach, ieder zijn ding. Kan over Android ook een hoop zeggen hoor.

Als je een telefoon van +/- 250 euro vergelijkt met een telefoon van 360/400 euro dan is de kans dat de telefoon van 400 euro wat sneller aanvoelt best wel aanwezig lijkt me. Dit zal niet anders zijn als je 2 android telefoons vergelijkt uit verschillende prijsklasses.
Ik gebruik zelf inmiddels een Samsung a40 en ik moet zeggen dat dit een hele mooie telefoon is voor 250 euro. Tuurlijk heeft een telefoon die 2x zo duur is een aantal plus punten maar persoonlijk vind ik het prijs verschil niet waard.

Funny observation, I have considered trying to abandon iOS for being too bloody expensive for features and specs, but feared the different way of using Android. I have so far not heard this approach, but I do 'prefer' the silk smooth iOS experience.

Nou is het zo dat de Honor 10 met release €400 was, hij de chip had van de p20 van €600 bij release. En dat de hardware uit 2018 kwam. De SE die ik nu gebruik kostte mij €40. De nieuw prijs was €489 als ik het goed heb. Daarnaast is de Apple A9 uit 2015. Dan zou je toch zeggen dat een android dke 3 jaar nieuwer js met een flagship chip sneller zou wezen/voelen? Mijn mening: ik zou geen telefoon willen zonder widgets op het home screen En het eerste wat ik doe bij het kopen van een nieuwe telefoon is rooten, bootloader unlocken en custom rom erop die bij mijn smaak past. Dus voor mij persoonlijk is een iPhone helemaal niks. Waarmee ik niet wil zeggen dat het slechte telefoons zijn, om die discussie voor te zijn.

You just got the wrong Android phones, and you're comparing it to a top-end iOS model.
Try a OnePlus, or especially anything with a 90hz or 120hz display, and you cannot go back to iOS because it is not smooth enough

Im not comparing it to a top-end iPhone. The SE is from 2016 and has the Apple A9 from 2015 in it. I do think that a 90Hz oneplus would be a great phone, but i feel like I’d be bothered by my 60hz laptop screen after using that. Also, oneplus is out of my price range , when it comes to new phones. LG and Huawei/honor aren't really good examples on how smooth Android can be. Phones like Pixel or Oneplus are way smoother.
High end doesn't really equal good software on Android unfortunately, even big brands like Samsung are not that good at software.

Meh.. mijn eerste smartphone was een 3GS. Heb nu een X en alles daartussen gehad!
Ik ken Android 2.x e.d. Wel (familie). M’n zus heeft nu een galaxy s7 ofzo.. Heel erg verbeterend en stukken smoother dan vroeger
. Alleen iOS ken ik als ‘the back of my band’. Als ik iets op een Android telefoon moet doen vind ik dat wat omslachtig, zoals iemand die Android gewend is dat andersom zal hebben.
Beide OS-en hebben hun pro’s en cons. Ik vind bij Android de notificaties mooi, de openheid van de NFC chip etc
Bij iOS de simpliciteit en controle van Apple die leiden tot kwalitatieve apps.
Ik vind wel dat iOS steeds meer kleine bugs heeft en minder strak is dan vroeger. Geen megalmaniac meer aan het roer en uitbreiding van het gamma aan producten/diensten:
Tevens vind ik het fijn dat een bedrijf privacy hoog in het vaandel heeft en betaal daar graag meer voor. Al vind ik dat sinds de X de prijzen wel buiten proportie zijn, maar er zijn meer die hieraan mee doen helaas..
